Chapter : 1 contextualizes the research as a whole by providing an overview of diabetes, descriptive epidemiology, burden, and consequences. It also provides explanation of various psychological factors like depression, emotional distress and spiritual well-being which contribute to adherence toward self-care in diabetic adults. Further an account of holistic self care in diabetes has been provided in order to better understand concept of self-care in diabetes. Rationale of the study and objectives and hypotheses of the study have also been given at the end of this chapter by examining literature on type 2 diabetes self-care.
Chapter : 2 begins with a definition and discussion of literature related to self-care recommendations followed by literature which investigates factors influencing adherence to diet, exercise and medication regimen in diabetic adults. In this section gaps were also identified in the existing literature to better understand the problem.
Chapter : 3 provides methods and approach used to conduct this research. Sample description, data collection instruments and procedure used for conducting the research study were also provided in this chapter. Description of techniques used to analyse the collected data was also provided at the end of this section.
Chapter : 4 describes the results and interpretation of this research study. Important findings of the study have been tabulated and charts have been given to support the presentation of the results. Subsequently findings of the study have been discussed in this chapter and following the discussion, limitations, implications and directions for future results have been given in detail.
Chapter : 5 provides conclusions of the findings which were drawn in an effort to make unique contribution to understand the experiences of people managing type 2 diabetes.
